Analysis Of A Star

Chris Brown-Whose girl is that

Music videos are a tool, which are used to promote the artists they are also used to create a stronger relationship between the artist and the audience. Chris browns first ever music video was filmed when he was only 13 years old. The genre of the music video is RnB. The RnB music video is mainly performance based and always uses close up shots of the artist. This is because he is new to the music industry and they want the artist to build a strong relationship with the audience.

As the artist at the time is only 13 he wasn’t represented as the rich and flashy person like over RnB artists Hip Hop artists.  This was because the artist was young and not recognised in the music industry so they didn’t want the audience to get the wrong perspective about the artist. However the music video gives the artist a very strong image of being very talented young artist. This positive representation of the artist gives him a good image, which helped him greatly when entering the music industry.

In this music video Chris Brown is wearing a long baggy top with basketball shorts. This outfit conforms to the broad american audience of teenagers. This sepecific target audience allowed the record label to mould Chris Brown into the star that they need to fill the gap in the market. This conforms to Richard Dyers star theory as he stated that all artists are not real people they are media products. As chris brown doesn't write his own songs, choose his costumes or direct his music videos. This shows how he is only a media product who is told how to act and perform.

Chris Brown-Yeah 3x

Half way through Chris browns career as an RnB artist he started to record more up beat songs straying away from his usual love stricken RnB songs. Chris Brown music video for ‘yeah 3x” is mainly performance based and has consistent close up shots of the artist. The consistent close up shots of the artist is too keep the continuous strong relationship between himself the artist and the fans.

The artist’s image has also greatly changed. As fashion trends have changed over the years his style has become more free and stylish then since his first music video. In this music video he has started to wear clothes like a shirt, tie and waistcoat. In the music video he wears loads of different outfits to cater for different target audience.

After a series of bad publicity Chris Brown felt like he had to reinvent himself. This is one of the reasons to why Chris Brown changed from the slow love stricken RnB songs to the more upbeat and dance songs. The constant change in the music industry trends may have also fuelled Chris Browns sudden change in music genre.

Chris Brown-Don’t Judge Me

Chris Brown has had a very successful career in the music industry. The first shot is a low angle long shot looking up at the artist walking along a dusty road. This opening shot is too tell the audience that the music video is narrative based. The first shot is too also connote how the artist is going on a journey. The artists image in this music video is fit to based the narrative of the song. Although you do recognise changes in the fashion trends that the artist has previously followed.

The artist conveys a very strong image. The artist has an overall positive representation therefore bringing him closer to his audience. This is shown through the song lyrics of saving peoples life’s.

Throughout the years Chris Brown has changed a lot. His style in fashion trends changed a lot over the years wearing many different costumes in a lot of his music video each one portraying a new style. His music has also slightly changing as chris brown is also doing a lot of rapping in his songs.
